story

A group of monkeys are playing in the woods. Some of them are jumping around in the trees, and some are playing around on the ground. They are so happy. One of them ran to a well beside the forest to play alone. It lay on the edge of the well, stretched its neck into the well, and suddenly yelled, “It’s incredible, it’s incredible! The moon fell into the well.” That’s it!” It turned out that the little monkey saw a moon in the well.
A big monkey heard the call and ran to the well and looked into the well. It was also taken aback, and then yelled: “Oh, oh, oh, the moon has fallen into the well!” Their screams were startled. After the monkey group, the old monkey ran towards the well with a large group of monkeys. When they saw the moon in the well, they all screamed together: “Oh, it’s over, oops, it’s over! The moon really fell into the well!” The monkeys screamed and made noises. Finally, the old monkey said: “Don’t yell, everyone, let’s find a way to fish up the moon!” All the monkeys obliged to respond to the old monkey’s suggestion and join the team of fishing the moon.
There is an old locust tree next to the well. The old monkey first jumped to the tree and hung upside down on the tree. The other monkeys hung my legs one by one. I hooked your head and hung it into a long strip. Go down and go deep into the well. The little monkey is light and hung at the bottom. It can reach the moon with its hands in the well. The monkeys thought, we can always get the moon up now. They are very happy.
The little monkey stretched his hand into the well water and grabbed it at the shining moon, but except for a few drops of water, he couldn’t catch the moon. The little monkey kept catching and fishing like this. After tossing for a long time, he still couldn’t catch the moon.
The monkeys who had been hanging upside down for a long time felt very tired and could no longer support them. Some began to complain: “Hurry up and fish, why haven’t you fished yet?” Some cried, “Mom, I can’t hang it! I can’t hang it!”
The old monkey also gradually got sore waist and leg pain. He raised his head suddenly, and suddenly found that the moon was still in the sky, so he said loudly: “No need to fish, no need to fish, the moon is still in the sky!”
All the monkeys looked up to the sky, and the moon really stood in the sky.
Since the monkeys didn’t understand the truth about the moon in the well and took the falsehood as true, they were busy, stupid and ridiculous.

Provenance

Dian published “Fayuan Zhulin·Fool Pian·Miscellaneous Ministry”: In the past, there was a Jiashi country, and there was a Polojia city in the country. Hundreds of monkeys live in the sparsely populated forest on the outskirts of the city. One night, the monkeys came to a well in play. I don’t know which monkey first found the moon shadow in the well, and was taken aback: “It’s not good, the moon fell into the well!” Upon hearing this, an older monkey rushed over to look at the moon in the well, and he was right. The companions said: “The moon fell into the well. We should work together to get it up, lest every night in the world is darkened.” But how can we get the moon out? The older monkey patted his brain: “There is a way, I climbed on the branch, you can grab the moon by holding my tail, one by one.” So the group of monkeys one after another, Connected into a long string. Unexpectedly, the group of monkeys connected together was too heavy, and the branches could not bear it. When the monkeys were approaching the water surface, they snapped off with a click, and all the monkeys fell into the well. Nowadays, people often use this allusion to warn that if mediocre people disturb themselves, it will inevitably lead to disaster.
